Book Review

"I looked forward to reading “Reflections: A Journey of Transformation,” by Afarin Rava. Her earlier memoir, “Languages & Life Lessons,” shared with readers her life growing up in a family that moved often, not to another part of a town or state but to new countries with new languages and cultures. She intersperses these memories with lessons she learned.
...
Her new book “Reflections” is a continuation of her life. And it’s not always joyful.
...
This is an astounding book of one woman’s ability to turn what could have left her a victim into a life of success and gratitude. I highly recommend it to all. And I look forward to reading part 3 of Afarin’s amazing life."

Calvin Coolidge

"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race."

Patterned Sky

One day, around midday, I stepped out of my cabin and looked up, and the sky looked like this:

New Studio Project

In Reflections: A Journey of Transformation, I wrote:

"As the hot water soothed my sore muscles, I decided to create a blog and document every step of what seemed to be a long and painful process."

And so I did.

A Journey of Transformation

When you leave everything behind and seek refuge in an unfamiliar place, not knowing what to expect, you learn, adapt, reflect, and grow... and sometimes you are fortunate enough to have the ability to write a book about it.

Accused, threatened, homeless, and hunted, Afarin leaves behind her life as she knows it, the life she has worked so hard to build, and goes to the woods to take refuge in the wilderness. Now, she has to learn to survive, and learn she does.

This book is a memoir about the author's four years in the woods: how she makes sense of the events of her life, how she demystifies words, and how her transformation catches her by surprise.

Chiggers

Do you know what chiggers are?
I didn't know about them until I moved to the woods in Arkansas.
Chigger was one of the first new words I learned and one of the first close encounters I had in the Natural State.
I have a chapter titled "Chiggers" in my memoir Reflections.
A picture is worth a thousand words, right?
Here's my left leg about two weeks after I arrived at my cabin in the woods:

A Short Introduction

In my first memoir, Languages & Life Lessons, in a chapter titled "English Versions" I write:

"A series of unfortunate incidents led me to a cabin in the woods in Arkansas in 2018. Living in the woods was nothing like living in a city, and Arkansas was only four states east but so different than California."

My second memoir, Reflections: A Journey of Transformation, sheds some light on my move and my four years in the woods.

Nature

I see all kinds of animals during my walks.
Some are just beautiful.
