A day without coffee is like…

I have no idea.

It’s never happened.

Probably hell on earth.

Indiana Joes

This book is about COFFEE & PIE, the drink and, not the baked dish, but the Program for Intensive English at Indiana University, where the author taught for six weeks. It's a very short memoir about her seven weeks in Indianapolis in the summer of 2022, the classes she taught, her students, the project she gave her advanced class, the coffee shops she visited, and the facts she learned about coffee during this time.

Indiana Joes

The title of the book Indiana Joes was initially going to be COFFEE & PIE, all caps for a reason. Coffee referred to the beverage; PIE, however, didn't refer to the baked dish; it stood for Program for Intensive English, the English program for international students at Indiana University in Indianapolis. The book is a very short memoir about my seven weeks in Indianapolis in the summer of 2022, the classes I taught, the project I gave my advanced class, the coffee shops I visited, and whatever I learned about coffee during this time.

Charles Mackay

“You have no enemies, you say? Alas, my friend, the boast is poor. He who has mingled in the fray of duty that the brave endure, must have made foes. If you have none, small is the work that you have done. You’ve hit no traitor on the hip. You’ve dashed no cup from perjured lip. You’ve never turned the wrong to right. You’ve been a coward in the fight.”

Reflections

Yesterday I got a call from someone who bought Reflections: A Journey of Transformation at the book signing on Monday. They said they were reading and enjoying my book. I've received many wonderful reviews on Amazon and Goodreads and BookBub. I've also received quite a few messages from my readers, but they'd all been in the form of texts or tweets. I believe this was the first phone call. It felt good.

Book Signing

I, along with two other authors, had the opportunity to meet a few readers through a book signing event at the local library on Monday, October 31.

Thank you, Deborah Meyer, for organizing this event.
