Clueless

Pishi Pishi Miao Miao Pooch would love it if I gave her a clue — well, the original kind. Back in the day, a "clue" wasn’t a hint to solve a mystery; it was a ball of yarn. The word started out as clew, meaning a literal tangle of thread, which is basically every cat’s dream toy. Over time, the idea of following a thread to find your way morphed into the modern meaning of a clue — something that helps you figure things out. So technically, if I tossed my cat a ball of yarn, I would be giving her a clue… just not the detective kind.
